VINTAGE DESCRIPTION! - July 24, 2008
So, how does this work? You have to build a band, rehearse the band, schedule and promote the band.....and then.....you have to NAME the band. When the dust settled and the band took shape recently, it became obvious to me that we were going to have to identify ourselves as a band. The problem with using my name only was that the guys weren't identified and because there are so many solo acts around, it could be misleading for booking gigs. From this point on, we are pretty much booking venues where there is room and our band can play. I will still do some things solo or with another guitarist (like St. John's) but most of our booking will now be with our full band.
The Name??? Well, I dislike cliche band names and images that are used over and over and I wanted something that identified our music particularly. Interestingly enough, we were rehearsing two months ago and I made a statement to the band and said "Our music and presentation is really different because of my original songs as well as our mix of new covers, old covers, folk tunes, etc....OUR MUSIC IS VINTAGE". It was one of those moments where everybody just kind of said..."Hey, that is true". It was not a ceremonial moment at all and none of us realized that we had named our band that night. It was weeks later when I started to think about what I had said and how fitting it was to describe us. Shortly after that, I told the guys and we started doing some research on the name and how many other times it was used by bands. I spent a significant amount of time considering ways to use the name like....Greg Hayden and The Vintage.......Vintage.....etc..We ended up with Greg Hayden & Vintage. Because my sole purpose for pursuing this mission was to promote my original music, it was absolutely necessary to keep my name with Vintage. So, I am very proud of the name, but more so of the way it came about during a rehearsal in a casual conversation describing our music.
At this point, we are working on plans to put our new packages together for all of our new promotions. I am very pleased with the name and mostly how it came about!
